Campaign Manager — Dr. Butch Ware for Governor of California
Location: California (Remote-Flexible with travel required) | Full-Time | Immediate Start
Reports To: Candidate & Senior Campaign Leadership
About the Campaign
Dr. Butch Ware is running for Governor of California on a platform rooted in economic justice, education equity, environmental leadership, and the full dignity of every Californian. This campaign is people-powered, strategically driven, and building something historic. We are looking for a seasoned, mission-aligned leader who understands that good politics and good values are not in conflict — they amplify each other.
About the Role
The Campaign Manager will serve as the operational and strategic backbone of the campaign — managing staff, overseeing field, communications, finance, and digital operations, and ensuring all workstreams are aligned toward winning. This is a senior leadership role that requires someone who can hold vision and execute detail simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all campaign departments — field, communications, digital, finance, and operations
Develop and execute a comprehensive campaign strategy in coordination with the candidate and senior team
Manage staff hiring, onboarding, performance, and team culture
Oversee campaign budget in partnership with the Financial Director
Serve as primary liaison between the candidate, consultants, and coalition partners
Maintain accountability across all departments against key campaign milestones
Drive voter contact strategy, including digital outreach, earned media, and grassroots organizing
Represent the campaign in stakeholder meetings and with allied organizations
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of campaign experience preferred, including at least one major statewide, congressional, or comparable race
Demonstrated experience managing multi-department teams and large campaign budgets
Deep understanding of California's political landscape, coalitions, and electorate
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with CRM tools, campaign tech infrastructure, and data-driven strategy
Unwavering commitment to the campaign's values and mission
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment with grace under pressure

Financial Director — Dr. Butch Ware for Governor of California

About the Role
The Financial Director will lead all fundraising strategy and operations for the campaign. This person is a relationship-builder, a systems thinker, and deeply motivated by the opportunity to resource a transformative candidacy. You will work directly with the candidate to build and manage a robust donor pipeline, drive major gifts, oversee compliance, and ensure the campaign has the financial resources to win.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy across major donors, grassroots small-dollar, digital fundraising, and events
Build and manage a major donor portfolio in partnership with the candidate
Oversee all fundraising operations, including call time management, donor tracking (CRM), and reporting
Lead planning and execution of fundraising events and finance committee engagement
Ensure full compliance with California campaign finance law and FEC reporting requirements
Partner with the Campaign Manager to develop and manage the campaign budget
Recruit, manage, and support a finance team and volunteer fundraising network
Track fundraising goals and provide regular performance reporting to senior leadership
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of campaign finance experience, with a track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals
Experience with major donor cultivation and solicitation
Strong knowledge of California and federal campaign finance law and compliance
Proficiency with CRM and fundraising platforms (e.g., NGP VAN, ActBlue, FGFunnels or similar)
Exceptional organizational and project management skills
Ability to operate with discretion, integrity, and confidentiality
Strong network within California's progressive donor community is a significant plus
Commitment to the campaign's vision for a more just and equitable California

About the Role
The Communications Director will serve as the chief architect of the campaign's public narrative. This is a creative, strategic, and high-visibility role for a communicator who understands how to translate a bold vision into earned media, compelling content, and an integrated multi-platform communications strategy. You will be responsible for shaping how California hears — and falls in love with — this campaign.

Key Responsibilities
Develop and drive the campaign's overarching communications strategy, messaging, and narrative framework
Manage all media relations — serve as primary press contact, cultivate reporter relationships, and secure earned media coverage
Write and edit press releases, op-eds, statements, talking points, debate prep materials, and candidate messaging
Oversee digital communications in coordination with the digital/social media team across all platforms
Lead rapid response and crisis communications with speed, clarity, and composure
Manage the campaign's integrated communications infrastructure including Wire, FGFunnels, and social platforms
Supervise communications staff and consultants
Represent the campaign's voice consistently across all external touchpoints
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years in political communications, journalism, public affairs, or a closely related field preferred.
Demonstrated experience in campaign communications or executive-level communications for an elected official or major organization
Exceptional writing skills — fast, clean, and on-message under pressure
Strong media relationships, particularly in California press markets
Experience managing integrated communications platforms and digital tools
Ability to manage multiple workstreams, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously
Deep alignment with the campaign's values and a demonstrated commitment to equity and justice
Experience with communities of color, progressive coalitions, and multi-cultural audiences is highly valued
