The campaign is aware of allegations against former campaign manager Jason Call. We take this matter seriously and are launching an internal investigation. This campaign will never tolerate abuse.
In the interests of transparency, we will publish the results of the investigation in a statement by January 8, 2026.

Result of Investigation
Butch Ware for Governor 2026 has completed an internal investigation of an allegation made in email and social media against Jason Call in December of 2025. The allegation of abusive behavior and sexual harassment are extremely serious matters. The campaign has concluded the investigation and in the interests of transparency is providing the following information:
Who is the accused?
A former campaign staffer who worked for Butch Ware for Governor 2026 as Campaign Manager (CM) from February 2025 until early November 2025. In early November, he informed the campaign that he was relocating to Spain to pursue a career opportunity. Upon learning of the proposed move, Mr. Call was internally moved and no longer served as the Campaign Manager within internal campaign processes. This was announced to Campaign staff at a meeting on November 10th.
The campaign team agreed not to announce the change to the public until we were able to recruit a full-time replacement for the CM position. Mr. Call continued to be an employee (not CM) of the campaign until January 1st, 2026 when he resigned. At that time his access to email accounts, all campaign communications platforms, and the website were removed.
What is he accused of?
The accusations outlined in an email composed in December by a third-party proxy involve a series of disputes between co-tenants (roommates in a rental property) about their cohabitation agreement in Spain. According to the accuser’s proxy this involved unwanted sexual advances, a claim denied by the former CM. Both parties have apparently exchanged mutual accusations of other forms of verbally abusive or intimidating behavior as well.
Did this incident involve a campaign volunteer?
NO. The accuser was NEVER - at any point in time - a campaign volunteer, employee, or affiliated officially or unofficially, with the campaign in any way.
What is your process for vetting employees and volunteers?
From its inception, Butch Ware for Governor 2026 has had a careful process for vetting and onboarding any and all volunteers who wish to aid the campaign. We have a full-time volunteer coordinator who carefully directs the onboarding process.
That process includes an official registration form, Zoom interviews, and regular processes for coordination among campaign volunteers. This rigorous approach helps to assure operational security from ongoing efforts by Democrats and others to infiltrate third-party campaigns, and protects Butch Ware for Governor 2026 from people who might seek to misrepresent their connections to the campaign.
Is this considered workplace harassment?
No, there are no workplace harassment protocols to follow when a private citizen levels a complaint against a campaign staffer. The campaign has no standing, legal or otherwise, to attempt to adjudicate the allegations.
Was the accuser ever part of the campaign?
The accuser was never part of the campaign and does appear to have been a volunteer for the California Green Party. Butch Ware for Governor 2026 is its own institution, not registered with the CA Greens or any Green Party chapter, there is no access to the volunteer records of the CA Greens.
While the individuals who have amplified the allegations via email and social media may not be aware that there is no relationship of any kind between Green Party chapters and individual campaigns, any volunteer to either organization would certainly be aware of this critical distinction.
Internal records indicate that the accuser emailed the Campaign Manager on May 22, 2025 stating that she was a volunteer for the CA Greens and submitted a CV and the offer to help out the campaign. No response was ever returned to that message, and the accuser never joined the campaign in any capacity either formally or informally.
Does your campaign tolerate abuses of volunteers or staffers?
Abuses of volunteers have never been, and never will be, tolerated by this campaign. It was determined in early December when the email complaint reached the campaign that the individual leveling the complaint had no relationship with the campaign.
Even though this incident DID NOT involve a volunteer or individual associated with the campaign, it is of the utmost importance that staff - as representatives of the campaign - carry themselves with requisite personal and professional ethics at all times.
What changes is the Campaign making after this?
Whatever the merit or lack of merit regarding the allegations Mr. Call fell short of campaign standards for professionalism. For this reason, Mr. Call immediately and voluntarily tendered his resignation on January 1st.
The appearance of a conflict of interest is as corrosive to public trust as the reality of a conflict of interest.
The campaign is under no legal, professional, or ethical obligation to intervene in a conflict between its staff and private individuals; nor does the campaign have standing to do so.
But, the campaign is at all times and in all places, under a moral and ethical obligation to hold staff to the highest standards of professionalism and personal comportment. It was poor judgment for a staffer to risk the public trust by even appearing to blur the lines between personal and professional associations.
What is next?

Individuals who express concern are entitled to a speedy response to their questions or concerns. Any staff or volunteers accused of ethical infractions are entitled to due process. All parties are due a speedy resolution.
