ANGELICA ROSS OFFICIALLY JOINS THE BUTCH WARE FOR GOVERNOR CAMPAIGN AS COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA, FEBRUARY 20, 2026 — Ms. Angelica Ross, professional actress featured in Pose (2018-2021) and American Horror Story (2019-2021) and notable human rights advocate, has joined the Butch Ware for Governor campaign as the Communications Director. She will be a key driver of the overall communications strategy and leading the Press & Media Relations team.
Ross said of her support for Dr. Ware, “I have supported Butch Ware since his run for Vice President, because I have seen a leader grounded in principle and guided by a spiritual foundation that makes room for everyone. In a political climate where both major parties have too often failed to stand up for trans people, I am joining this campaign because Butch is willing to listen, learn, and be accountable. When he got something wrong, he did not double down. He met with trans organizations and trans leaders, including me, to understand the harm and do better. That is the kind of leadership California deserves.”
Ross was a featured speaker at the Butch Ware’s campaign fundraiser concert held in San Leandro on February 7th, headlined by Roger Waters from Pink Floyd. She spoke further on her appointment to the campaign: “I am honored to join Butch Ware’s campaign for Governor as Communications Director. As a Black trans woman, I know what it means to be reduced to a single issue, so I deeply appreciate that this campaign sees my full range as a strategist and communicator.”
She continued, “I am here because I believe California needs leadership that defends bodily autonomy for all women, centers disability justice, and treats homelessness as a solvable, human-made crisis. I have stood in solidarity with communities facing state violence and displacement, from Palestine to right here at home, and I am bringing that same clarity and commitment to this work.”
Ross emphasized the culture of accountability Dr. Ware’s campaign embodies: “Politics as usual has left trans people exposed, and it has left far too many Californians behind. I am joining Butch Ware’s campaign because he shows a rare form of courage: the ability to say ‘I’m sorry,’ to admit when something was wrong, and to change course with integrity. That willingness to be accountable, paired with a deep respect for people across race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity, is exactly why I believe he can earn the trust to govern for everyone.”

Dr. Rudolph “Butch” Ware is running for Governor of California with the Green Party. He is a longtime organizer and movement builder, and is a tenured professor of African and Islamic history at University of California, Santa Barbara.
